Shannon began practicing sport psychology in 2004 and started her own consulting practice, Ultimate Mental Edge, in 2008. Walton attended Ithaca College and graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Psychology specializing in Sport Psychology. She continued her education at the University of Rochester with a Masters degree in Counseling.

Her specialties include both mental skills training and assisting injured athletes through the period after their injury and their rehabilitation period. Her interest in the area of sport psychology developed out of a passion for sports and psychology. She has played multiple sports at various levels that include: soccer, cycling and skiing. Walton has worked with a wide range of sports while assisting individual athletes, clubs teams, high school teams and college teams during her career.
